Katherine Edgecumbe— Project Chair (17, Junior --Mitty) is the leader of the Health, Fitness, and Body Image workshop. She loves cross country and track. In addition to Girls Lead Now, she is passionate about Teens for Teens, her project to get Christmas gifts for homeless teens. In her free time, she loves to run, read, listen to music, and spend time with friends and family. In the future, she aspires to be a social justice lawyer.
Jennifer Campbell – Time Management (18, Senior –Mitty) is the leader of the Time Management Workshop. She loves to write for her school's newspaper, prosecute in Mock Trial,and participate in her school's religious organization known as the LIFE CORPS. She loves to spend her time baking, hiking, or just hanging out with her friends. Her aspiration is to be the next Tina Fey/Kristen Wig on Saturday Night Live, although she is also interested in being a counselor.
Sharanya Shankar – Positive Thinking (16, Senior – Monta Vista) She loves Mock Trial, enjoys being a part of her school Government Team (We The People), ASB and is the co-opinions editor of her school newspaper. In addition to that she also is a proud member of the cross-country team and loves running alongside of that, aspiring to do a marathon someday. In her leisure time, she enjoys to cook, bake, run, write, listen to music, have fun and spends time with her friends and family. She is honored to be part of the Leadership Team for Girls Lead Now!
Mishika Vora— Ready Set College! (17, Senior – Monta Vista) She loves helping out her community (especially the youth!) and enjoys Lincoln-Douglas debate. She is also a City Council appointed member of the Teen Commission of Cupertino, and is passionate about getting the teen's voice heard. In her free time, she likes writing, singing, dancing, running, photography and simple things like going out with her family and/or friends. As for the future? It's still unclear, whether it be in the field of biology or business, but Mishika knows that whatever it may be, she wants to make a difference.
Virginia Rose Henry – Entrepreneurship (15, Sophomore - Los Gatos) She loves volunteering her time at the Good Samaritan Hospital. She is part of many clubs and organizations at her high school. She get's involved in activities she is passionate about. She plays guitar and piano, and composes her own songs. Also she is part of policy debate at her school and is very friendly. She aspires to be a dermatologist, psychologist, or a songwriter.
Karin Nilo – Fearless Speaking (17, Junior – Cupertino) is one of the leaders of the Fearless Speaking workshop. She is a member of the Junior Class Council at CHS, a member of the girl's varsity water polo team, co-president of the CHS International Thespians Chapter and co-captain of CHS ComedySportz High School League. Outside of school and extra-curricular activities, Karin designs costumes for the CHS theater department, reads and spends time with her loved ones.
Shannon Risk – Stereotypes and Snap Judgments (16, Junior-- Wilcox) is helping lead the Stereo Types & Snap-Judgments workshop. She LOVES to dance and is on her schools dance team. As well as helping with Girls Lead, Shannon volunteers at the Humane Society. One of her goals in the future is to become a veterinary technician. In her spare time she enjoys to rock out to music, dance, and give people hugs.
Maya Seshadri - (16, Junior - Homestead) is Head of the PR Team for Girls Lead 2009! She is extremely passionate about all forms of Indian dance, and is heavily involved in community service both in and out of school. In addition to training in various Indian classical forms, she is a professional dancer for the largest nation-wide Bollywood dance company, Naach. In her free time, she enjoys living, loving, laughing, traveling, and eating chocolate. =)
Rebecca Organ- Project Cochair (16, Junior- Mitty) competes in track and field, volunteers at Habitat for Humanity, and enjoys cooking. She is excited for her immersion trip to India this upcomming summer. In the future, she hopes to be a doctor.
Jennine Grasso – Stereotypes and Snap Judgments (15, Sophomore --Prospect) The workshop Stereotypes and Snap Judgements especially resonates with her because she is currently acting in The Crucible Her hobbies include acting, writing, jazz and Bollywood dancing. Her favorite subjects in school are English, World History, and Spanish. In the future, Jennine hopes to become a novelist.
Dana Barzilay- Fearless Speaking (17, Senior-Homestead) is one of the leaders of the Fearless Speaking Workshop. She has competed in the area of public speaking through her involvement with the organization FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) at the national level. Dana loves to wakeboard, enjoys learning languages, and is an officer of the National Spanish Honor Society at her school.
Pooja Boinapalli – You’re Hired! How to Get a Job or Internship (17, Senior-Monta Vista) is extremely active in her community due to her passion for community service. In school, Pooja enjoys competing and leading her school’s Junior States chapter as president. She also loves classical Indian dance and performs often with her dance group. In her free time Pooja loves reading, writing, dancing, doing arts and crafts, traveling, eating, and talking. Pooja hopes to pursue a career in medicine.
Maya Raman- Play The Game of Life: Budgeting (16, Junior – Mitty) is the Budgeting workshop leader. She is very excited to be a part of Girls Lead Now after attending the 2008 event. Maya loves playing tennis for her high school and is active in her community through the City Year Program. She also teaches elementary school kids through the Math Olympiad program. While she has no idea what her future career plans are, she knows she will pursue something that she loves and is passionate about.
