Overhead in HR: "We don't recognize people for doing their job"
Jack's
technical assistant had worked all weekend to ensure that their
client's system was up and running. Monday morning Jack called his HR
department to request a recognition bonus for the TA's above-and-beyond
efforts.
HR declared, "The
TA is a salaried employee not an hourly employee and as such, it is his
job is to ensure that client systems are up and running. The TA was
just doing his job. We don't recognize people for doing their job."
Is she kidding? Where did she get her HR prowess from an infomercial?
Recognition
is the fastest and easiest way to motivate someone. Not only did she
stand in the way of fueling the TA's fire in the belly for doing a
great job, she managed to estrange Jack who proceeded to gripe and
groan about HR.
Memo to Employees
Clearly this HR rep is useless, but that's no reason not to recognize the TA. [add more!]
